Defective Hip Replacements
Anchorage Product Liability Lawyer
In recent years, medical device manufacturing giants and doctors alike have touted the benefits of metal-on-metal hip replacements, claiming that these devices allowed patients to experience greater mobility. However, time has shown that metal-on-metal hip replacements tend to have higher rates of defects, complications, and problems.
If you suffered injuries or complications after receiving a metal-on-metal hip replacement or any type of hip implant, there is a strong possibility that you are the victim of a defective medical device. The Anchorage product liability attorney at Banker Law Group, P.C. can help you understand your legal rights and determine if you are eligible for compensation. Our firm is committed to helping injured Alaskans seek fair recoveries for their losses, including medical bills, lost income/wages, pain and suffering, and more.
Hip Replacement Recalls
Several major companies have come under fire for producing defective and/or dangerous hip replacements and hip implants. According to a report by Consumer’s Union, 578 hip replacement/implant were recalled between 2002 and 2013. Unfortunately, for many patients who had already received these defective devices, these recalls came too late.
Some of the most common major hip implant and replacement recalls in recent years have involved the following manufacturers:
- Smith & Nephew
The most common reason for the recalls involved defective labeling. In other words, these manufacturers did not accurately market their products. Most prominently, the claim that metal-on-metal hip replacements led to greater mobility in patients proved false.
Other common problems with defective hip replacements include:
- Design defects, making the products inherently dangerous
- Devices “migrating” within the body
- Hip implant/replacement failure
- Missing/defective components
- Lack of proper/adequate instructions
Fighting to Hold Negligent Medical Manufacturers Accountable
In many cases, the manufacturers and distributors of defective hip replacements and implants were fully aware of the potential risks of their products, yet they failed to warn medical professionals and/or consumers. In other instances, the push for profits led manufacturers to “fast-track” products and put them on the market without proper testing.
At Banker Law Group, we believe that these companies should be held accountable for the widespread harm they have caused. Attorney Anthony Banker is committed to helping victims of defective hip replacements secure the justice and compensation they are owed. A skilled negotiator and time-tested trial attorney, he knows how to take on major medical manufacturers in settlement and in the courtroom.
